Healthy Pelvic Floor Program

The Healthy Pelvic Floor Program at Proactive health is designed to address the specific needs of individuals who are experiencing pelvic floor dysfunction or wish to improve the health and function of their pelvic floor muscles. The pelvic floor plays a vital role in supporting the pelvic organs, maintaining continence, and facilitating sexual function. Our program aims to promote optimal pelvic floor health, address specific pelvic floor conditions, and empower individuals with the knowledge and tools to maintain a healthy pelvic floor.

Here are the key components and benefits of our Healthy Pelvic Floor Program

COMPREHENSIVE ASSESSMENT: Our experienced physiotherapists conduct a thorough assessment to evaluate the strength, coordination, and function of the pelvic floor muscles. This assessment may include an internal examination, which is performed with the utmost sensitivity and respect for the individual’s comfort and privacy. Through this assessment, we gain valuable information about the pelvic floor’s condition and identify any specific issues or concerns.

PELVIC FLOOR MUSCLE TRAINING: Based on the assessment findings, we develop an individualized pelvic floor muscle training program. This may involve various techniques, including pelvic floor exercises (Kegel exercises), biofeedback, and neuromuscular retraining. These exercises aim to strengthen and restore the function of the pelvic floor muscles, improving pelvic floor support, continence, and sexual function.

EDUCATION ON PELVIC FLOOR ANATOMY AND FUNCTION: We provide education on the anatomy and function of the pelvic floor, helping individuals understand the importance of pelvic floor health and how it relates to their specific condition. This knowledge empowers individuals to take an active role in their pelvic floor health and make informed decisions about their treatment.

BLADDER AND BOWEL MANAGEMENT: Our program addresses issues related to bladder and bowel function, such as urinary incontinence, overactive bladder, and constipation. We provide education on healthy bladder and bowel habits, including appropriate fluid intake, timed voiding, and techniques to improve bowel regularity. This can help individuals better manage their symptoms and improve their overall quality of life.

MANUAL THERAPY TECHNIQUES: In addition to pelvic floor exercises, our physiotherapists may use manual therapy techniques to address specific pelvic floor issues. These techniques can include soft tissue mobilization, myofascial release, and trigger point therapy. Manual therapy can help release tension, improve blood flow, and reduce muscle tightness in the pelvic floor muscles.

POSTURE AND BODY MECHANICS: Posture and body mechanics play a significant role in pelvic floor function. We provide guidance on proper posture, body mechanics during activities, and strategies to avoid excessive strain on the pelvic floor. Improving posture and body mechanics can contribute to better pelvic floor support and function.

MANAGEMENT OF PELVIC PAIN: For individuals experiencing pelvic pain conditions, such as pelvic floor muscle dysfunction or pelvic girdle pain, our program includes techniques to manage and reduce pain. This may involve relaxation exercises, breathing techniques, and strategies to improve body awareness and reduce muscular tension in the pelvic region.

LIFESTYLE AND BEHAVIORAL MODIFICATIONS: Our program addresses lifestyle and behavioral factors that can impact pelvic floor health. This may include guidance on healthy habits, such as maintaining a balanced diet, managing stress levels, practicing proper hydration, and avoiding activities or habits that can strain the pelvic floor muscles.

INTEGRATION OF PELVIC FLOOR HEALTH INTO DAILY ACTIVITIES: We provide guidance on incorporating pelvic floor exercises and strategies into daily activities. This includes techniques to engage the pelvic floor muscles during functional movements, such as lifting, bending, and exercising. By integrating pelvic floor health into daily activities, individuals can improve the strength and coordination of their pelvic floor muscles in a practical and sustainable way.

ONGOING SUPPORT AND FOLLOW-UP: Our physiotherapists provide ongoing support and follow-up to monitor progress, address concerns, and make any necessary adjustments to the treatment plan. We aim to build a collaborative and trusting relationship with our clients, ensuring that they feel supported and empowered throughout their pelvic floor health journey.
