Stroke rehabilitation program

Stroke rehabilitation is a specialized program offered at Proactive health that aims to optimize the recovery and quality of life for individuals who have experienced a stroke. Our comprehensive stroke rehabilitation program focuses on enhancing physical and functional abilities, promoting independence, and maximizing overall well-being.

Here are the key components of our stroke rehabilitation program

MULTIDISCIPLINARY APPROACH: Stroke rehabilitation requires a multidisciplinary approach involving a team of healthcare professionals, including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, and other specialists. At Proactive health, we collaborate closely with these professionals to provide integrated care that addresses the specific needs of each stroke survivor.

INDIVIDUALIZED TREATMENT PLANS: Each stroke survivor has unique impairments, functional limitations, and goals. Our experienced physiotherapists conduct a thorough assessment to understand the individual’s physical abilities, mobility, balance, coordination, and any associated complications. Based on this assessment, we develop personalized treatment plans that target specific areas for improvement and promote functional recovery.

EARLY MOBILIZATION AND REHABILITATION: Stroke rehabilitation begins as early as possible, often in the acute care setting, to optimize outcomes. Early mobilization and rehabilitation strategies are employed to prevent complications such as muscle stiffness, contractures, and reduced range of motion. Our physiotherapists use techniques such as passive range of motion exercises, bed mobility exercises, and transfers to facilitate early mobilization and functional recovery.

MOTOR FUNCTION TRAINING: Stroke survivors often experience difficulties with motor functions, such as walking, reaching, grasping, and coordination. Our physiotherapists design tailored motor function training programs that focus on improving muscle strength, balance, coordination, and gait. This may involve exercises, gait training, balance exercises, and functional tasks to improve mobility and independence.

ACTIVITIES OF DAILY LIVING (ADL) TRAINING: Stroke can impact the ability to perform daily activities independently. Our stroke rehabilitation program emphasizes activities of daily living (ADL) training to enhance functional independence. This may include practicing self-care tasks like bathing, dressing, feeding, and toileting, as well as training in home management activities to improve overall functional abilities.

ASSISTIVE DEVICE TRAINING: Depending on the severity of stroke-related impairments, the use of assistive devices such as walkers, canes, or orthotics may be beneficial. Our physiotherapists assess the need for and provide training in the use of assistive devices to facilitate safe mobility and enhance independence in daily activities.

BALANCE AND FALL PREVENTION: Stroke survivors may experience balance deficits, which can increase the risk of falls and compromise safety. Our stroke rehabilitation program includes targeted balance training exercises to improve stability, reduce the risk of falls, and enhance confidence in mobility.

COMMUNICATION AND SWALLOWING REHABILITATION: Stroke can affect speech, language, and swallowing abilities. Our collaborative approach involves working closely with speech-language pathologists to address communication difficulties and provide swallowing rehabilitation when necessary. This may involve exercises to improve speech articulation, language therapy, and swallowing exercises to enhance safety during eating and drinking.

COGNITIVE AND EMOTIONAL SUPPORT: Stroke can also impact cognitive functions such as memory, attention, and problem-solving, as well as emotional well-being. Our team provides cognitive stimulation exercises and emotional support to help stroke survivors regain cognitive abilities, manage emotional challenges, and improve overall mental well-being.

FAMILY AND CAREGIVER EDUCATION: Stroke rehabilitation involves the active involvement of family members and caregivers. We provide education and training to caregivers on safe and effective techniques for assisting with mobility, transfers, and activities of daily living. This empowers caregivers to provide ongoing support and facilitate the stroke survivor’s rehabilitation progress.

At Proactive health, our stroke rehabilitation program aims to maximize functional recovery, promote independence, and enhance the overall well-being of stroke survivors. We are committed to providing individualized care, utilizing evidence-based techniques, and supporting stroke survivors throughout their rehabilitation journey.
